Dekross swung at the mad man-thing leapt away again and snarled at his cowardice as he leapt away once again. Practiced discipline was perhaps the only thing that prevented him from crushing his lightclubs in his fury. His eyes topaz eyes shifted color to a rich, luminescent gold. This creature was skilled with the blade and his strength nearly match his own. That alone made Dekross that much more determined to slay the bestial thing and devour its heart.

When the light exuded by the crystals began to fade it filled the Drakkaarian’s heart with a strange sense of dread. The man-thing appeared to be drawing power from the kyber to feed his own and it didn’t require his connection to the Force to know that it boded ill. Nothing but the glow of their sabers remained to cast their features in a demonic light, deepening his mounting concern. Then, the crystals lashed out with arcs of lightning that were drawn into the mad man’s form. It converted that power into a wave of blood-tinged Force lightning that Dekross crossed his blades to counter.

The power behind the attack proved too great for him to handle and his guard quickly shattered under the assault. An inhuman howl tore from deep within Dekross’s throat. A swirl of painful imagery rushed through his mind to join the sheer agony he felt. The many scars he’d earned, the dozens of times he’d died and been resurrected, the pure, unfettered hatred he felt for all living things, and his own fear of weakness sprung to violent life in his thoughts. Every moment of suffering, every fear locked deep within his brain, rushed to the forefront, and for the first time several years Dekross felt fear.

The drakkaarian fell to a knee as the torrents of lightning continued to bombard his frame. Already he could feel his strength failing him. Thoughts of his master eventually surfaced. The little green demon stood over him, manipulating his midiclorians to his will and breathing life back into his ravaged frame.

A disappointment, you are.

Dekross craned his neck to glare death at the man-thing. He locked eyes with the sobbing creature for a moment that seemed to stretch on forever. His pain, his sorrow, his fear, his remorse; Dekross took every emotion that he felt and cast it upon the flames of his rage. His eye color shifted again as darkness like nothing he’d ever experience roiled within him. He rose painfully to his feet and took one agonizing step forward; then another, and another, and another. The power of the Dark Side filled him to bursting with its might as he fought against the current seizing his limbs. His sabers would rise higher with each steep until he held them high above his head. Then, Dekross would bring them down upon his opponent with a savage roar, aiming to cleave the man-thing’s arms from its shoulders.

As the drakkaarian's guard buckled under the force of the powerful lightning, the man's sobbing turned to a growl, then to laughter. He had won. Theree were few that could go on after taking a torrent of his lightning. His laughter ceased abruptly, however, when his eyes met with his enemy's. He was unbroken even now. The hermit's face contorted into an expression of fear, torrents of lightning still pouring out of his fingertips, which seemed to have been burned down to the bone.

The lizard-man was approaching closer and closer, and let fly his sabers chopping through the mad man's arms with ease. The lightning subsided. The crystals had returned to their usual dim red glow, allowing for a little visibility. The crazed man dropped to his knees in shock, barely believing what had happened. His master had been right, all those years ago. He was weak. To this day it seemed, he had remained his master's unwitting pawn. His despair seemed to weigh down the air within the cave. Crushing despair would penetrate all around him.

Gazing up at Dekross, the man stared into his eyes. This pawn had bested him after all. He hated him. "Perhaps the master expects you to succeed after all." he said with an unnervingly calm tone. "I... will NOT. GIVE HIM THE SATISFACTION." A switch seemed to glick within him. His calm demeanor had faded quickly, turning to unfathomable rage. "I WILL BE YOUR END!" He bellowed. His voice seemed to fall deeper and deeper in tone.

His head snapped back, looking towards the ceiling and let out a scream laden with Force energy. It created a massive shockwave, shaking the cave violently. Debris fell from the ceiling, raoning down large sharp rocks and crystal formations. It seemed that the force of the scream had taken everything out of the man, and he collapsed into a pile of fine black dust. His lightsaber, along with the severed arm holding it, became the same fine dust, dissipating into the air. When the violent shaking of the cave subsided, the Drakkaarian would notice a crystal glowing within the pile of ash that had once been a man. It called to him almost longingly.

Another long path led out of the alcove, seeming to stretch on forever. This narrow path seemed to be even darker than the rest of the cave, and there seemed to be no light at all in the distance. It was the only way to proceed, though the idea would not even be entertained by even very brave men, as it instilled a very deep feeling of unrest and fear.

Dekross fell to his knees alongside the man-thing. Arcs of lightning and thin streamers of smoke were rising from his shaken form as he heaved gasps of musty air into his lungs. He glared at the man-thing that had cause him such pain and contemplated which parts of his flesh would make a decent meal. The man-thing would not die a painless death for his slights against a Lord of the Sith.

However, revenge would be denied to him as the man-thing rear back his head and unleashed a Force scream that shook the cavern with its power. Rubble began to fall even as the creature disintegrated into a pile of ash, leaving only a crystal as evidence he’d ever existed at all.

Dekross deactivated his sabers and drew the crystal to him with one hand while the other rose above his head to stave off the worst of the falling debris. Then, he gathered his feet underneath him and leapt into the corridor before his power could fail. The debris buried the spot where he’d knelt only moments ago. He spared a glance back at the sealed path behind him. Given time, he might’ve been able to clear the way back, but he was still weakened from his previous encounter with the man-thing and could ill-afford to squander what little remained to him on pointless pursuits; there was still a path forward.

The Drakkaarian turned from the cave-in to the crystal—a second piece to the puzzle—clutched in his hand. He could feel the heartbeat of the Force pulsing through the thing as though it were alive. It was stored away in his robes as he considered the utter darkness of the path laid out before him. No light seemed to exist to illuminate the impossible gloom and that alone was beyond disturbing to him, more so than the feeling of unrest and fear that settled on him. His scales itched harshly as he rose to his feet and proceeded into the darkness.
