The victory of Manaan resounded throughout the entire galaxy with the much needed cheers from the Republic soldiers. But so few stopped to think of the cost of having that joy, hope and morale. The Force was rippled underneath every decibel of those cheers with the silent, but deafening waves of death.

And there, even on the dreamy metropolis of Coruscant, the waves of death and pain washed over in silence. It was a shame that it had become normal to hear the boots of the Jedi healers squeaking all day and night as they hurried down the corridors of the Halls of Healing. It was a shame to walk past men and women who had forgotten what it had been like to see their face in the mirror without those dangling bags underneath their eyes, to see their medical droids strained to capacity. To take a sidelong at every room as you walked in-between chaos and see dirty, bloody sheets have to be reused because it was the last they had.

The Ai’in Jedi Consular, Shae Ti’era felt as if she were being crushed in a maelstrom of agony, sadness, and sacrifice, swept in the midst of it like every bit of it was her own. She clasped her hands together over her waist and slowly pattered her boots through the halls, drawing in every vestige of those emotions that were souring into her and exhaled it out, finding her center.

The exotic alien’s eyes turned to her side, looking down at a short, Quermian Jedi healer approaching her. “It’s good to have your help, Shae.” The niceties came out of his mouth in a hurry, his hand taking to her lower back at he sped up their walk. “We’ve got a Padawan from Manaan, we’re almost out of kolto and bacta. She could use your help.” He nodded at her for a moment as they reached the door, rounding the corner and falling in the chaotic flow of his duty. “I’ll take care of her.” She assured the man, though she wasn’t sure if he heard her before he was gone.

Shae gave a polite knock to the door, waiting a moment before she pushed in the panel and slid the door open. Her feet could hardly step inside the room before sympathy sowed down her visage. A young brown-haired girl in a room of her own, a single medical bed in a room of her own, with a droid hovering around her. But it was different - it was as if the injuries she suffered were resounding out of her body in three separate shrieks.

Shae’s wide, blue eyes looked on her with the type of soft, nurturing look that couldn’t be mimicked, as if they were promising that it would be alright. The door closed behind her as she found her way to the girl’s side. “Hey. My name is Shae.” She smiled on her, a gloved hand reaching onto her forearm with the gentlest of touches. Her voice was as soft as her presence. “How do you feel?”

The young woman’s journey from Manaan to Coruscant was a brief collection of voices, faces, and intense pangs of pain. Consciousness was gained and quickly loss several times during her transport and in that time she remembered Varus’s worried voice attempting to reassure her. She could also feel Master Darkheart’s comforting presence nearby as he no doubt watched over her protectively. It was hard to think as her mind felt as if it was being suppressed underneath a thick fog. Any coherent thoughts that managed to form were fragmented and were soon forgotten. Had they repelled the Sith at Manaan? What of the Sith Togruta that she was fighting? Did Varus lose control of himself again?! Did they suffer any casualties? Was she dead?

No, she wasn’t dead. Aria could feel her consciousness returning once again and her whole body felt heavy and numb. Unresponsive. She tried to open her eyes but the bright light above her blinded her and she quickly shut them once more. She tried to say something but her throat ached and she remembered how she had been choked into submission during the siege. She reached for her throat with a heavy hand and felt pain upon applying pressure to her own flesh. The girl could only imagine how her neck looked at the moment, a ring of purple where she was Force Choked. She tried to open her eyes again, more slowly, and saw that she was no longer in the harsh storm that had been battering Manaan’s surface. Though that should have been obvious as soon as she realized regained consciousness. Why was it so difficult to think?

A droid was hovering around the girl and seemed to be monitoring her vitals. Was she in one of Manaan’s medical facilities? Aria attempted to reach out through the Force to see if she could sense Varus nearby but was unable to do so as she could hardly focus. What was wrong with her? She could still sense the Force but she couldn’t do much else. It was worrying. Her thoughts were easier to collect but it was still difficult to focus on one thing for too long. She finally lowered her right hand from her neck and trailed down her own body stopping above her abdomen without even realizing she had done so. Where was Varus? He wouldn’t leave her alone for long, it was surprising to see that he wasn’t by her side waiting for her to wake up. For a second fear surged through her body as the thought that he couldn’t be here passed her mind. She quickly dismissed it, she would know if something horrible had happened to him.

It was at this time that a knock came from the door at the end of the room. Aria turned her eyes quickly to the door in hopes that it was who she thought. The padawan was soon disappointed to see a blue skinned woman enter instead of her Master and was unable to hide the disappointment from her face. The woman had a kind look in her eyes and Aria quickly felt at ease with the woman. The woman made her way over and offered her name along with a smile. Aria returned the smile with one of her own but it was a tired one. Shae’s touch didn’t bother the girl as it was obviously meant to comfort her, which it did.

“I... “ Her voice was a little rough with disuse and abuse from the siege but she continued on anyway. “I’ve felt better.” It was followed with a small smile and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Though if she wanted to answer any other questions that Shae had for her then she would need something first. “Water, please?” The request was short but Aria didn’t want to strain her own throat any further than she had to at the moment. Hopefully she didn’t come across as r

The lightest of crinkles took to the skin around Shae’s eyes, born from the sincerity of her heart. There was only one person in a galaxy full of countless trillions that mattered right now, and that was that poor, injured girl. A loving thumb slowly came to caress over her forearm, that mischievous twinkle catching her. “Of course.” She said, that nurturing touch melting off of the Padawan.

Shae turned and walked to the other corner of the room, and though she was dressed as well as any member of the Galactic Senate, her walk couldn’t have been less of a strut. It had a touch of grace, but it was more goofy than anything else. Her hands gripped down the last cup from the container and slid it underneath the water dispenser. She listened to the purified water pour and fill it halfway, enjoying the simplest things in life for what they were.

“It is not too cold, but the warmth will be good for your throat.” She told her as she walked back over. Every word was perfectly enunciated, like she was reading from a dictionary and could only speak proper and prim. Shae reached with her free hand and slightly arched the bed upward, only then giving her the cup, standing next to her as her eyes surveyed down her body.

“I apologize if this seems rude.” She was referring to the way she was eyeing down the girl’s body, not wanting her to feel like an item in an exhibit. There was a daze behind her eyes like thick, dirty clouds lingering after a storm. “Please, take a sip. You have been through a painful ordeal, I’m so sorry.” The healer closed her eyes, both of her hands hovering a few inches over the Padawan’s face. A mystical, turquoise energy began to form swirl out of the palm of her hands. The tickles of bliss began to glide down the Padawan’s throat, soothing her pain and ushering the injury away.

The smile of Shae’s visage thawed away as the Force flowed through her, replaced by a cringe and the pinch of her drawn-on brows, like she was sharing and enduring every ache with the Padawan. The hands began to traverse down her chest, the sensation following. Her pains and her grievances began to blow away in the wind, but there was something else; the faint breaths of life yet to come. “You were one of the defenders of Manaan? I can feel the torture of the dark side lingering at your throat. The worries, the…need for something - someone?”
